This week, Dan's company sent him to Santa Monica for a financial advisers conference. To my surprise, his boss footed the bill for a 5 star hotel and said he should take the family... I was stoked! Granted, it's only Santa Monica, but between the kids and owning a business, opportunities to get away as a family don't come around often, so I was excited. That excitement however, quickly faded! I had good intentions and it started out great, nice hotel, beautiful view, great outing to the pier and the Promenade, but that all changed super fast. First came the rain, then came Jack's inability to relax while Dan and I tried to enjoy our dinner at a ritzy restaurant (stupid idea, instantly regretted), then came our 1am wake up call courtesy of Jack's need for a "baba of milk" (which cost $10.34 and took 30 mins. btw)... Needless to say, come morning I was both dejected and exhausted.
The new morning brought more of the same bad luck and I quickly realized that our little outing would not go as planned. Keeping the kids cooped up in the hotel room all day while Dan was out was not an option, so I made a game time decision, though a tough one, to bring Jack home. After he was situated with my mom and feeling better (his mac n' cheese didn't sit well and I was wearing it) I turned back around to meet Dan as he was getting out of the seminar. I put my game face back on and we, including Elle, finished the night strong with much need R&R.
All in all, we had a good time. Sure, it didn't go picture perfect like I planned, but when does it ever?
BTW...I know room service is usually overpriced, but this hotel was unprecedented. Milk over $10 dollars for like 6 oz., a lg cup of coffee was $14, ridiculous.
I did manage to get a couple cute pictures...
